“There’s a way to do it better – find it.” – Thomas Edison
To innovate, is to “make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas or products”. Innovation can at times be both exhilarating and challenging, but the rewards are potentially great.
It’s been more than a year since we launched Skyborne Airline Academy and eight months since we welcomed our first UKCAA Integrated ATPL cadets. During that time we’ve worked hard to keep innovation at the heart of everything we do, as we develop the industry’s next generation of airline pilots.
Flight Risk Analysis training is one of a number of areas where we’ve been proud to take a fresh approach. Prior to establishing Skyborne, our research within the industry revealed that in most cases airlines feel a true understanding of risk is not being instilled at the ab initio stage of training for the next generation of pilots.
Teaching trainee pilots to analyse risk before each flight; from evaluating weather, terrain, familiarity with procedures, to reviewing their own health and wellbeing is crucial.
A greater awareness of how to evaluate threats and mitigate risk from the very first day of training, as well as the development of skills to complete their own risk analysis using a tailored tool, means pilots will arrive at their prospective airlines better prepared for line operations.
