Gavin Dery, an FAA 141<\/a> student pilot here are Skyborne Vero Beach, gave us some insight on how he transitioned his career from being a control systems engineer, to becoming a pilot and perusing his aviation career, down to the moment when it all clicked for him. What inspired you to transition from engineering into aviation?<\/strong>
\u201cI was a Control Systems Engineer, specializing in Automating Manufacturing Processes in the pharmaceutical industry, but I knew I wanted a change. So, I found Skyborne and booked my discovery flight and that\u2019s where it all clicked for me \u2013 \u2018THIS is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life\u2019.\u201d<\/p>

What was it about your discovery flight that made you realize that you wanted to become a pilot?<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cI have always loved aviation and flying, I just didn’t know when or where to start. I knew from the moment I first got in the cockpit during that discovery flight that this is what I am supposed to do.<\/p>

Everything just clicked. I got to see and feel what pilots do firsthand. And from then on, everything fell right into place, where it needed to. Since then, I have been avidly working through all the steps to get right here.\u201d<\/p>

What steps did you take, following your discovery flight, that got you to where you are today \u2013 a pilot student?<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cI honestly didn’t know where to start, or really have the time, but I started looking into aviation schools. After researching their FAA 141 program on their website, Skyborne seemed like the perfect fit for me.\u201d<\/p>

How has your experience at Skyborne supported your transition into this new career path?<\/strong>
\u201cThe Skyborne team had been really amazing at helping to take the time to answer my questions, especially during that pivotal time in my career. Everyone, from the instructors to the staff, to the students, has been immensely encouraging. They give you good insights within the industry and are always there to cheer you on.\u201d<\/p>
