Red Umbrella Academies

red umbrella logoSupporting our students and staff with their mental wellbeing is top on our list of priorities. We work with Red Umbrella Academies, to provide an online mental health platform for our students and our alumni. In addition, we also have dedicated members of staff at our centres who have been trained by Red Umbrella to be Mental Health First Aiders, providing support to our students when they need it most.

Tom Misner, CEO Chairman said:

“As Chairman and co-founder of Skyborne, I believe that supporting the mental health and well-being of our staff and students, is critical to the success of the individual and the Company. This is true for any business, not just aviation. Skyborne recognises the importance of mental health and wellbeing throughout your training and beyond. It’s a fact that we will all be presented with challenges and stressors that affect our mental health and wellbeing from time to time and at Skyborne, we are committed to providing first-line mental health support and professional assistance when needed.

Skyborne’s mental health platform has been developed to provide you with the necessary self-help tools and signposting, as well as access Skyborne’s trained Mental Health First Aiders for confidential advice and support. Beyond this, Skyborne has partnered with Red Umbrella to provide you with access to professional therapists, who have experience within the aviation arena, to provide specialist guidance through their Care Coin programme.

I hope that this tool is useful in supporting you through training and elements will also be available to you once you start your professional flying career through our Alumni platform.”

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDERS

We have a dedicated team of Skyborne trained Mental Health First Aiders in both the UK and U.S. The team are contactable via email, telephone or face-to-face to discuss, support and guide students on anything that is affecting them during training. They can also point students in the direction of any additional external resources that can assist and all support is offered with complete confidentiality.

PILOT PEERS

In partnership with Red Umbrella, students can also access professional peer support from commercial pilots that are also trained therapists. “Care Coins” can be allocated or purchased as required to access professional support via the My Airspace platform. Also available free of charge on the platform are mindfulness sessions conducted by one of the pilot peers for students to access.

RESOURCES

By following the link to Red Umbrella online, students can access e-learning and toolbox information regarding mental health. The toolbox document covers a variety of areas and includes a directory of external organisations should they wish to reach out for support.
