Skyborne takes a truly integrated approach to your airline pilot training, using our many years of experience to devise the best curriculum for you to learn the necessary skills to become an airline pilot. Training takes place in five phases and the whole course takes approximately 18 months to complete.

Your aircraft flight training will start earlier than in most other flight schools. The ATPL theoretical knowledge training is delivered in two parts, with the initial flight training sandwiched in between. We accept applications year-round with each course having no more than 20 trainees.

SELECTION PROCESS

We review all online applications and subject to you meeting our entry criteria, you will be invited to complete our initial web based selection process. This is a series of online psychometric, numeracy and aptitude assessments.

We use the AON assessment tool to help determine whether or not you have the core competencies needed to successfully commence the course. The next stage of the selection process will be to attend an online assessment with Skyborne. This includes a series of non-technical activities and an interview. During your training with Skyborne, we help you develop those core skills, knowledge and attitude to become an effective commercial pilot.

Unlike most flight training organisations, we do not charge for selection.

Course Requirements

First, you must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training course and hold a valid passport that allows for the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK.

You must have at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent) to apply. If you have studied outside of the UK, please see UK NARIC for guidance on equivalent academic qualifications. Some airlines may insist on higher qualifications, such as A-Levels.

A current and valid unrestricted UK CAA Class 1 Medical Certificate is required before the commencement of training.

PHASE 1 - THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE TRAINING - GLOUCESTER

Your training starts in our headquarters at Gloucestershire Airport, in the UK, where you will study and be examined on the UK CAA ATPL subjects. 13 exams will be completed during this phase.

We aim to make this phase not all classroom-based. Where possible, you may be able to take part in observation flights and conduct familiarisation work in our Diamond DA-42 and Boeing 737 Max Simulators.

PHASE 2 – SINGLE-ENGINE FLIGHT TRAINING INCLUDING CPL - FLORIDA

Once you have completed ground school you will transition into the single-engine phase of flight training and CPL at Skyborne Vero Beach, Florida, our fair weather base with lots of opportunity to fly.

The core phase of flight training is completed on our Piper Warrior, single-engine fleet as well as in our Red Bird simulator.

PHASE 3 – MULTI-ENGINE FLIGHT TRAINING - GLOUCESTER

On your return from Florida, you will go back to ground school and complete your final module of theory at Gloucestershire Airport headquarters, in the UK, armed with all of your experience of flying. You will take to the DA-42 fleet and FNPT II simulators.

PHASE 4 – A-URPT - GLOUCESTER

During this phase you will spend one day in the classroom learning the theory and three sessions in the T67 aircraft. You will learn how to handle and instinctively respond to the aircraft when in unusual altitude. You will immediately be able to apply what you have learned in the simulator to your aircraft training.

.

PHASE 5 – APS MCC - GLOUCESTER

This final phase will see you complete 40 hours of Multi-Crew training on our Boeing 737 MAX simulator.

You will spend the first week in ground school, learning about air law, airline operations, multi-crew procedures and technical training. Once this part is complete you will spend the remaining time in the B737 Max simulator, progressively developing jet handling techniques and multi-crew skills. This ensures you will be fully prepared to commence type rating and line training with a Skyborne partner airline.
