The Private Pilot Certification course is broken into three stages.
Stage One begins with a two and a half week ground and self-study course and concludes with your Private Pilot FAA written examination.
Stage Two will be the start of your in-aircraft flight training where you begin to learn the fundamentals skills and techniques necessary to pilot an aircraft.
Stage Three continues to build upon stages one and two, with increased focus on aeronautical knowledge, navigation, night flight and performance take-offs and landings.
Arguably one of the most important ratings to have. Within this course, you will learn to solely rely on gauges for a successful flight. In the air there are no reference points, flying through clouds and/or foggy weather will inhibit your visibility, knowing how to read gauges effectively ensures a safe flight.
Instrument Stage One focuses on aircraft control and basic instrument navigation.
Instrument Stage Two consolidates knowledge, risk management and aircraft handling skills. Passing your Instrument Stage Two Check results in your second pilot rating, the Instrument Airplane Rating.
Phase One: You’ll begin in ground school for two weeks where you will study Commercial and Instrument simultaneously. You’ll begin in commercial stage one where your private skills are further exercised and developed. You’ll be challenged with dual and solo cross-country navigation, dual and solo night flight and night navigation as well as be introduced to more advanced maneuvering.
Phase Two: Commercial Stage Two will follow the completion of the Instrument Course. You’ll continue to practice the advanced maneuvers learned in commercial stage one and will continue to solo on longer range flights. Additionally, in Commercial Stage Two, you will return to the Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) for a deeper dive into more advanced instrument flying. Finishing second phase with a stage check.
Phase Three: Concludes with a check ride to earn licensing.
The Multi-Engine Commercial Additional Class Rating Course challenges you to learn how to properly manage a faster and more complex aircraft. As well as monitor and manage its systems, and most importantly it helps to develop your ability to maintain positive control and accurately pilot a Multi-Engine aircraft with one of its two available engines inoperative. This demanding course uses our advanced Multi-Engine aircraft the Piper Seminole, along with the Redbird AATD to prepare you for your end-of-course stage check.
Phase One: You will start with a three-week ground school where you will learn about the fundamentals of instruction, levels of learning, human behavior, techniques of instruction, test creation, evaluation, and critique. You will complete two FAA written exams during the ground school (The FIA and FOI exams).
Phase Two: During your flight training stage, you will learn how to confidently fly the various maneuvers as well as manage student progress and endorse their training when appropriate. With the help of your instructor, you will learn how to develop your own lesson plans and practice delivering your planned training. The course will conclude with your End of Course check ride and the receiving of your FAA Flight Instructor Rating.
Living in our purpose-built student accommodation is not mandatory and therefore provided as an optional extra. Rooms will be provided on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability.
