What is the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme?

IndiGo Cadet Pilot Program Skyborne

The IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme is an airline pilot training pathway designed to take aspiring pilots from little or no flying experience to joining IndiGo, India’s largest airline as a Junior First Officer.

For cadets aiming to begin professional airline pilot training with a direct route into commercial operations, the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme provides a clear training journey.

What does training in the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme involve?

After successfully passing IndiGo’s selection process, cadets complete training at an Approved Training Organization (ATO) before progressing to type rating.

The programme is designed to align with IndiGo’s operational standards from the outset.

Training is structured around the competencies, procedures, and professionalism expected in a modern airline environment.

Typically, the programme includes:

  • Ground school and foundational flight training
  • Commercial pilot training
  • License conversion to meet Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) requirements
  • MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation) course
  • Type rating on the Airbus A320 (IndiGo’s primary aircraft fleet)

Upon successful completion of training and meeting regulatory and airline requirements, cadets take up positions as Junior First Officers with IndiGo, subject to final airline approval and operational readiness.

Who is the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme for?

The IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme is for individuals who are:

  • Wanting a defined pathway to an airline career
  • Prepared to meet airline selection standards
  • Committed to a structured, full-time professional pilot training programme

Airlines look for more than technical ability. Communication, leadership potential, decision-making skills, and professionalism all play a key role in selection.

An advantage of the cadet pathway is airline selection happens at the very start of the process. From day one, successful candidates know they are training towards a position with IndiGo and understand the standards expected of them, providing clarity throughout training.
