After earning her Private Pilot License at a different flight school, Lexi Clarke knew she wanted to continue building her skills and take the next step toward a career in aviation. As a new Partial Pathway student, Lexi shares why she chose Skyborne, what has surprised her most so far, and how stepping outside her comfort zone has already shaped her journey.
What made you decide to continue your flight training at Skyborne after earning your PPL?
“Earning my private pilot license was such a meaningful milestone for me because it confirmed that aviation was more than just something I loved, it was the path I wanted to pursue. But obtaining my PPL was only the beginning, and I realized how much more there was to learn and experience.
I knew continuing my training would mean taking a big step outside of what was familiar and comfortable, and that if I wanted to keep the fire burning, I had to be willing to take that next step. Skyborne felt like the right place to do that, and to continue developing skills not only as a pilot, but as a person.”
What has surprised you most about your experience at Skyborne so far?
“What has surprised me most is how much I’ve grown outside of the cockpit. I expected my flying skills to increase, but I didn’t realize how much this experience would challenge me personally too.
Moving away from home, being in a new environment, and pushing myself through an intensive training program has taught me so much about trusting myself and continuing forward even when things feel unfamiliar or difficult. I’ve learned that sometimes growth happens in the moments when you’re the least comfortable, and I can already see how much stronger and more confident I’ve become.”
What’s something about your journey at Skyborne that you didn’t expect when you first arrived?
“When I first arrived, I think I saw Skyborne primarily as the place where I was going to continue my flight training. I knew I would learn a lot and be challenged as a pilot, but I didn’t expect the experience itself to have such an impact on me personally.
“Being surrounded by new people, new experiences, and challenges that push me outside my comfort zone has made this journey about so much more than earning certificates and building hours. It’s become a season of progression, and I’m learning to appreciate that I don’t always have to have every step figured out to keep moving forward.”
Why did you choose Skyborne to continue your flight training after earning your PPL?
“After earning my PPL, I knew I wanted to continue learning in a structured environment that would challenge me and help prepare me for the career I am striving toward.
What drew me to Skyborne was the opportunity to be fully immersed in aviation and surrounded by people who were working toward similar goals. I also knew that coming here would push me outside of my comfort zone, and while that was definitely intimidating, I think the moments that shape us the most come from being willing to take that leap of faith before we feel completely ready.
And I’m really grateful I did, because Skyborne has already helped me flourish in ways I never would’ve expected.”
