From training at Skyborne to flying for Envoy, Luke Sa has experienced first hand how a professional training environment can prepare pilots for the airline industry. As a Skyborne alum and former Envoy Cadet, Luke shares what he took from his time at Skyborne, how that experience helped him transition into the airline world, and what aspiring cadets should know about the Envoy Cadet Program.
What is one lesson you learned at Skyborne that you still rely on today?
“One thing I really appreciated about the culture at Skyborne was the way that every single flight, no matter how far, what the weather was like, or the experience level of the crew, was treated with the utmost level of professionalism and safety. I try to implement that same standard into every one of my flights here at Envoy.”
How did your experience at Skyborne prepare you for your career at Envoy?
“I feel that flying and working at an Envoy partner school like Skyborne is such a big advantage, especially when you are a new pilot. Being immersed in such a professional environment and following SOPs early on really prepares you for a high-level place like Envoy. This really helped make the transition from flight instructor to airline pilot much smoother.”
What is something aspiring cadets may not know about the Envoy Cadet Program but should?
“Something that aspiring cadets may not know about the Envoy Cadet Program is that when you get hired on and begin working for a partner school, you begin accruing your company seniority. This is helpful because when you’re in initial training and it comes time to choose your base, you will pick based on company seniority with your classmates.
“Not to mention, you will also begin accruing vacation and sick time, which you will be able to use once you are at the airlines.”
What surprised you most about transitioning into the Envoy Cadet Program?
“A very nice surprise for me when becoming an Envoy Cadet was the newly gained privilege of American Airlines flight benefits. These are some of the best in the industry and are very nice when wanting to visit with family or go on a fun trip.”
