How can I become a commercial pilot in India?

India’s aviation sector is expanding at pace, supported by a recently announced $3 billion investment from the Indian government, so the demand for highly trained, airline-ready pilots has never been greater.

To support this growth, Skyborne Airline Academy has recently launched a new Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) programme for Indian cadets, designed to provide a clear, structured route into commercial aviation.

What is Skyborne’s Indian CPL programme?
Skyborne’s new CPL programme offers a Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA)-aligned pathway that allows aspiring pilots in India to go from zero-flight experience to commercial pilot-ready in as little as 12 months.

Throughout the programme, cadets will work towards and achieve a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) CPL aligned with DGCA requirements, including Single-Engine and Multi-Engine ratings, as well as Instrument privileges, meaning certified pilots are as prepared as they can be for a smooth transition into airline training.

Why train with Skyborne?
Skyborne’s CPL has been developed to support aspiring pilots from one of the fastest growing aviation markets worldwide, offering cadets world class, airline-standard training from day one.

With intake available on a monthly basis, the programme offers a range of benefits designed to support cadets throughout their training and into their careers.

Successful applicants will live and train at Skyborne’s state-of-the-art facilities in Vero Beach, Florida, which offers more than 350 days of flying weather per year. With training delivered by 100+ experienced flight instructors, cadets will develop the skills, knowledge and professionalism expected in modern airline operations.

How do I know if Skyborne’s CPL programme is right for me?
Before applying to the Indian CPL programme, applicants must ensure they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 40 at the time of application
  • Must have education level equivalent to 10 + 2, with at least 50% in each of English, Maths and Physics
  • Must be an Indian National or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) holder
  • Must have cleared the Air Regulation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation and Technical Specific (C172R) DGCA exams
  • It is preferred that applicants have cleared the Radio Telephony Restricted DGCA qualification
  • Applicants must also ensure they meet the medical requirements necessary to train to become a pilot, and when applying, hold a current and valid DGCA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
  • Before flight training commences, applicants must also obtain a US FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.

Aside from qualifications and age criteria, applicants must demonstrate key characteristics required to be an airline pilot, such as adaptability, determination, the ability to work effectively within a team, and clear communication.

Not only will cadets acquire the skills needed to become a commercial pilot but learn how to think and act like one too.

Take your first step to the flight deck
As India’s aviation sector continues to grow, there has never been a better time to begin your pilot training journey.
