POV – Training for the Future Starts Here
Jon Marlinski, an FAA 141 student pilot at Skyborne Vero Beach, shares how his training experience is preparing him for a future career in aviation.
From developing professional habits and holding himself to airline standards, to building the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
Jon gives insight into how Skyborne’s structured training environment is helping him take the next step toward becoming an airline pilot.
How is Skyborne preparing you for a future with the airlines?
“I believe that Skyborne is preparing us by simply holding us to the standards that prospective airlines see fit. Skyborne keeps us in uniform standards, higher than normal standards for our flying and our studying. Said practices are what prepare us heavily for when we get to our end goal – the airlines.”
What is one habit or standard you’ve developed at Skyborne that you believe will help you succeed at an airline pilot?
“I would say that Skyborne helps us adapt the ability of learning from others. You are not stuck flying with one person, you have the opportunity to fly with other CFI’s, giving you a range of different flight deck techniques, making you more sellable to the airlines.”
How has training in a structured airline-style environment changed the way you approach your flying and decision-making?
“Other schools are more hands-off, more laxed, with a “come and go as you please” culture, which can translate into bad habits. With Skyborne, we have a set path that we get to fly, we get to see where we are in our training, where we are in our progress, no wondering what’s next, and it’s all very reassuring and makes for an overall supporting learning environment.”
When you think about your future airline career, what part of your training at Skyborne do you think will make the biggest difference when you get there?
“The professionalism that Skyborne adheres to will make a positive impact on my future, at any airline. And based on my experience so far, I can already stand by how that will be a contributing factor in helping me get noticed by more airlines in the long run.”
