Meet Ollie, Skyborne graduate from Farnborough, who is now working as a First Officer for BA CityFlyer.
Ollie grew up around aviation living next to an airport but it wasn’t until he was a bit older he realised that a career are a pilot was a possibility for him. He started his first year in University training to be an engineer, but deferred his second year to pursue flight training. After attending a Pilot Careers Live event in London he fully researched what was involved and looked at many flight schools.
After a Skyborne Open Day in Gloucestershire, Ollie knew he wanted to attend after meeting Carla and Lee.
He started his flight training journey during a very challenging time for everyone – he signed his Skyborne contract one week before COVID-19 hit the UK and went into lockdown.
Ollie believes during difficult times it pulls people together and he bonded with his colleagues straight-away. After 18 months of training he had made friends for life! The group are all still in touch and have planned a skiing holiday this Christmas.
During his training there were occasions when resilience was needed. Having a great family support around him, as well as being able to talk to colleagues and staff, ensured his training success.
Ollie took some time off after completing his training and travelled before starting with BA CityFlyer. He loves the variety the airlines routes offer him and can’t imagine doing anything else.
Ollie offered this advice to aspiring pilots everywhere:
“Don’t compare yourself to anyone else – the training is hard work, but there are many highlights along the way. You will get there and it’s so worth it.”
