Looking to transfer to a new ATO? Hear from Byron Lloyd who has done just that

Name: Byron Lloyd [pictured in the middle with fellow trainees]

Course: Integrated ATPL Programme, ATO transfer

For many aspiring pilots, flight training is a journey filled with challenges, milestones and unforgettable experiences. For Byron Lloyd, transferring to Skyborne Airline Academy opened the door to a new chapter, bringing world class training, lifelong friendships and the opportunity to secure a position with easyJet.

We caught up with Byron to hear about his experience of transferring to Skyborne, life in Florida and how the support he received helped him take the next step towards an airline career.

Discovering the scale of Skyborne
Arriving at Skyborne’s Vero Beach campus was an experience Byron will never forget.

“The scale of the operation was the first thing that stood out. Arriving in Vero Beach and seeing the fleet of 50+ aircraft, the 24/7 maintenance team, dedicated fuellers and the operations desk that ensured we were always fit and safe to fly was incredible.”

From day one, it was clear that every element of the operation was designed to support trainees and create the best possible training environment.

Making the move to Vero Beach
Transferring to a new ATO can feel daunting, especially when you are among the first to take that step.

“Initially, the transfer process was quite daunting. There wasn’t really anyone who had moved over before us, but the team at Skyborne were incredibly helpful with CAA paperwork and visa applications, which made the whole experience seamless.”

With guidance from the Skyborne team throughout the process, the transition became an exciting opportunity rather than a challenge.

Training in a supportive environment
One of the biggest highlights of Byron’s experience has been the commitment from the Skyborne team to helping every trainee reach their full potential.

“The thing that has stood out most is the commitment to genuinely getting the best out of every trainee. The instructors always give you that extra bit of confidence and support when you need it.”

Training consistency

The consistency of training in Florida has also played a huge role in Byron’s development.

“Being able to fly consistently in Florida makes the initial stages of training a great experience. The environment and culture at Skyborne really help you build confidence as a pilot.”

Taking the leap
For anyone considering transferring to Skyborne, Byron’s advice is simple.

“Do it! You’re only ever in flight training once. The experiences I’ve had and the friends I’ve made here at Skyborne will honestly stay with me for life.”

From flying in a new country to building relationships with fellow trainees and instructors, Byron’s experience has become about much more than just learning to fly.

Securing the next step with easyJet
After transferring to Skyborne, securing a position with easyJet has been a dream come true for Byron.

“Securing a role with an airline less than 12 months after transferring to Skyborne feels surreal. I can’t thank Skyborne enough for all the lessons I’ve learnt whilst here, lessons I’ll take forward with me into every flight.”

The Skyborne recruitment team played a key role in supporting Byron throughout the airline assessment process.

“The recruitment team are always on hand to support every step of any application process. When it comes to airline contacts, they’re second to none. The preparation before airline assessments is fantastic, with a super experienced team who always give you the time, advice and feedback you need.”

Looking ahead
From arriving in Florida unsure of what to expect, to securing a future on the flight deck with easyJet, Byron’s journey highlights the opportunities that can come from stepping outside your comfort zone.

With the support of Skyborne’s instructors, recruitment team and wider community, trainees are given the tools, experience and confidence to take their next steps towards becoming airline pilots.
