selection process

To start your journey on the Ryanair Future Flyer Academy programme, you will first need to complete the Skyborne selection process. This can be started by registering your interest using the button on the right hand side of this page. You will receive an online application link and your application will be screened to ensure you meet the specified entry criteria. The next stage is our initial web-based selection process. This is a series of online psychometric, numeracy and aptitude assessments.

We use the AON assessment tool to help determine whether or not you have the core skills and competencies needed to successfully commence this course. The next stage of the selection process will be to attend an online interview with Skyborne. This is a competency based online interview designed to get to know you and understand your specific motivation to start your flying career with Ryanair. During your training with Skyborne, Ryanair will mentor you to ensure that you are ready for the guaranteed assessment process at the successful completion of your training.

Unlike most flight training organisations, we do not charge for selection.

PHASE 1 - THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE TRAINING - GLOUCESTERshire airport or bournemouth airport, uk

Your training starts at our training centre at either Gloucestershire Airport or Bournemouth Airport, UK, where you will study and be examined on the UK CAA ATPL subjects. 13 exams will be completed during this phase.

PHASE 2 – SINGLE-ENGINE FLIGHT TRAINING INCLUDING CPL and A-UPRT - vero beach, FLORIDA, U.S

Once you have completed ground school in the UK, you will transition into the single-engine phase of flight training, up to and including, the Commercial Pilots License (CPL) and Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (A-UPRT) at Skyborne’s fair-weather base in Vero Beach, Florida.

This phase of flight training is completed on our Piper Warrior and Arrow aircraft, plus Red Bird simulators.

PHASE 3 – MULTI-ENGINE IR TRAINING - GLOUCESTERshire airport or bournemouth airport, UK

On your return from Florida, you will complete your Instrument Rating (IR) at either Gloucestershire Airport or Bournemouth Airport, on the Diamond DA-42 aircraft and simulators.

PHASE 4 - advanced upset prevention and recovery training, uk

Advanced UPRT provides pilots with the skills to identify, prevent, and recover from unexpected aircraft upsets. The course combines theoretical instruction with practical flight training, focusing on understanding how to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic upsets in aeroplanes and to develop the necessary competence and resilience to be able to apply appropriate recovery techniques during upsets. Advanced UPRT concentrates on the differences between upset recovery in a small light aeroplane and the techniques used when flying a jet transport aircraft.

PHASE 5 – APS MCC - uk

This final phase will see you complete 40-hours of enhanced multi-crew training to airline pilot standards (APS MCC) on either our Boeing 737 MAX simulator or Airbus A320 simulator.

You will spend the first week in ground school, learning about air law, airline operations, multi-crew procedures, plus technical training. Once this part is complete you will spend the remaining 2 weeks in the simulator, progressively developing jet handling techniques and multi-crew skills. This ensures you will be fully prepared to commence type rating and line training with the airline.
