flydubai partners with Egnatia Aviation and Skyborne to advance pilot training capabilities.
flydubai has announced a strategic partnership with Egnatia Aviation (Egnatia) and Skyborne Airline Academy (Skyborne) to strengthen its pilot training capabilities and enhance its Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme.
Under the partnership, both training providers will deliver flight instruction for the programme’s inaugural batches, offering candidates a structured pathway to qualify for an MPL and seamlessly integrate into flydubai’s operations as first officers.

The latest collaboration marks a significant step in flydubai’s long-term strategy to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled pilots to support its fleet and network expansion over the next decade. By combining flydubai’s advanced training facilities with the expertise of two of the industry’s leading training providers, this strategic partnership not only equips the airline to meet future operational demands but also reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for aviation training and talent development.

Launched in May 2025, flydubai’s Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme offers cadets a fully integrated training pathway, encompassing ground school, simulator sessions and flight instruction, equipping graduates with the technical competencies required to progress into line training.
Candidates aged between 17 and 28 years old have been shortlisted for the programme’s inaugural intake, drawn from diverse nationalities including the UAE, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Kenya and the UK.

Egnatia delivers a comprehensive range of pilot training programmes, from Private Pilot Licences to advanced professional qualifications, all approved by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and designed to meet the latest international aviation standards, ensuring graduates are prepared to operate at the highest levels of safety and competence.

The academy’s programmes focus on the technical expertise, discipline and the skills needed to succeed in an international airline environment.
flydubai’s 38,000-square-foot Flight Training centre serves as the cornerstone of the airline’s strategy to scale its in-house pilot development capabilities and sustain its growth. Equipped with four Boeing 737 Full-Flight Simulators, the facility gives cadets access to industry-leading simulation technology from the earliest stages of training, enabling them to transition seamlessly from foundational instruction to line training on flydubai’s operational fleet.
flydubai currently operates a modern fleet of nearly 100 Boeing 737 aircraft across a growing network of more than 125 destinations, with more than 300 aircraft on order, including 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners scheduled for delivery from early 2028. flydubai is also on track to further grow its fleet with 11 Boeing 737 aircraft to be delivered before the end of 2026.
The airline’s workforce has expanded to 7,000 employees, representing 144 nationalities, including more than 1,520 qualified pilots, with recruitment continuing at pace to support the carrier’s next phase of growth.
As flydubai’s Ab Initio programme continues to mature and successive cadet intakes advance through its pipeline, the partnership with Egnatia and Skyborne will play an increasingly central role in meeting the carrier’s pilot resourcing requirements and supporting its long-term expansion plans.
