Skyborne opens new pathways for Armed Forces talent to become aviation instructors

Skyborne Airline Academy, a premier flight training school with bases in Gloucestershire and Bournemouth Airports in the UK, and Vero Beach in Florida, US, is inviting Service leavers to explore rewarding new roles as Theoretical Knowledge Instructors (TKIs) or Flight Instructors (FIs) at its UK training centres – with immediate vacancies available due to high demand.

A unique opportunity for Service leavers

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence Career Transition Partnership (MOD CTP), Skyborne presents a chance to apply military-honed skills to the training and inspiration of the next generation of airline pilots.

The academy combines rigorous airline-style instruction with a supportive, interactive learning environment, equipping trainees with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in a competitive global industry.

Ryan Smith, HR Coordinator, Skyborne, says: “Those leaving the armed forces bring experience, dedication and a calm professionalism that is invaluable in pilot training, and are qualities we value highly at Skyborne.

“We’re committed to providing a welcoming and collaborative environment that helps service leavers apply their expertise while making a smooth and successful transition to civilian life.”

Commitment to the Armed Forces community

Skyborne signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2021 and received the Armed Forces Covenant Bronze Award in 2022, underlining its commitment to supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families.

Locations and facilities

The UK centres offer state-of-the-art facilities, world-class training and a growing community of aviation professionals.

Gloucestershire Airport, in the heart of the Cotswolds, combines a relaxed pace of life with picturesque countryside and a welcoming local community. Bournemouth Airport is situated within a vibrant coastal town with miles of sandy beaches.

Both locations provide an enjoyable working environment and offer direct connections to London and other major UK cities.

Career benefits and opportunities

Roles at Skyborne come with competitive salaries and benefits, along with opportunities to grow within the organisation. As well as current vacancies for TKIs and FIs, other ad-hoc positions are also available for those with relevant experience.
