From my first flight to the easyJet flightdeck
We recently chatted to Husnain Lohn, who has secured a role with easyJet.
Here’s what he had to say…
Discovering the Dream
“I first knew I wanted to become a pilot as a young boy during my very first flight. I still remember the moment of take-off—the acceleration, the rotation, and then suddenly seeing the world from a completely different perspective. It was a feeling that stayed with me long after the journey ended. From that point on, I knew this was the career I wanted to pursue.
With the encouragement and support of my wife, I decided to follow that passion and begin my journey at Skyborne.
Training at Skyborne
My experience at Skyborne was incredibly valuable. I joined with a strong academic background in aeronautical and aerospace engineering, along with experience from previous roles, and the training helped refine those skills to a professional pilot standard.
What really stood out was the level of support. The instructors were always there to guide us, and the environment among trainees was highly collaborative. We supported each other throughout ground school and flight training, sharing knowledge and motivating one another. That sense of teamwork played a huge role in everyone’s success.
Favourite Moment
One of my favourite moments during training was my first unassisted landing in Vero Beach, Florida. It marked a major milestone in my journey, and having my instructor recognise that achievement made it even more special.
What made it truly unforgettable, though, was the shared experience. Throughout training, every success felt like a team achievement. Whether it was passing exams or progressing through flight phases, we celebrated together. Having my flight partner in the back and my instructor at the front during that landing made the moment even more meaningful.
Advice for Future Pilots
For anyone considering a career as a pilot, my biggest advice is to make the most of your time at Skyborne, especially if you’re not starting training straight away. Also, focus on developing key skills such as communication, teamwork, and stress management. These are just as important as technical ability when it comes to becoming a successful pilot.”
